Chocolate Pecan Tarts

"The boys" were going to their weekly curling meet, so I wanted to make them something to get them energized to play. I decided on making pecan tarts after seeing some really yummy looking tarts in Soma on Main St. I made the chocolate tart dough a little different than the recipes that I found.... just wanted a different texture to it. The combination with the pecan filling was great, I also added some berries to each tart to give them a twist.

Recipe

Tart Dough

1 1/2 C Flour
6tbsp Cocoa
1/4C Sugar
1/4tsp Salt
3/4C Butter
2 Egg Yolks

Bake the tart shells @375 for 15min.

Filling

5 Eggs
1 1/4C Brown Sugar
6tbsp Butter (melted)
1/3C Corn Syrup
1/3C Molasses
1tsp Vanilla
1/4stp Salt
1 2/3C Chopped Pecans(and a few for the tops)
(add some berries if you like)

Bake the tarts @350 for 40-45min

Green Tea Truffles

This is a variation of the previous truffle recipe I posted. For the centre I used a half recipe of the ganache, substituting with white chocolate and adding 1tbsp of matcha powder. I formed the small balls and froze them before adding them into the chocolate ganache.... I mixed some sugar and matcha for the dredge. These were great, and everyone loved them at my friend Kevin's housewarming the other night. The only modification I would make with these is to add a couple tbsp's of matcha to the chocolate ganache just to enhance that green tea flavour.
